St. Nicholas fortress is one of the most valuable and best preserved examples of renaissance defense

architecture in Europe. It is located at the entrance to St. Anthony Channel, near Šibenik in central Dalmatia.

St. Nicholas fortress is famous for its unusual shape and it is almost completely surrounded by the sea.

The fortress was designed by the famous Venetian architect Giangirolamo Sanmicheli in 16^th century to prevent Otoman attacks in Adriatic sea. It was built of bricks which was really unusual for Dalmatia at that time.

Because of its grand appearance, St. Nicholas fortress was always the best guardian of the city.

St Nicholas fortress is a unique monument of the world`s architectural heritage and in 2017. it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the nomination “The Defence System of the Republic of Venice between the 16^th and 17^th Centuries”.

St. Nicholas fortress is possible to visit with boat from Šibenik organized by the Public Institution Nature of the Šibenik – Knin County.

Visit lasts 2 hours and includes a boat trip from Šibenik to the fortress with the assistance of tour escorts and use of multimedia guide with augmented reality.
