According to the earliest historical sources, the first known Podstrana inhabitants were the Illyrians, pertaining to the Illyrian tribe Dalmatae. At the end of the 1st century B. The original area of Podstrana is Stara Podstrana (the old Podstrana- Ethno-Eco Village), a longitudinal group of centuries-old houses situated below the steep rocks of Vršina with the spirit of the past pulsating throughout their courtyards and lanes. The life of Podstrana poured down to the coastal area where today the urbanized settlements of Strožanac, Grljevac, St Martin and Mutogras string up.

In crystal clear sea where Kvarner islands meet Dalmatia, in the south of the island of Pag, Povljana is situated in a beautiful natural bay. Facing west it is sheltered from strong winds of Bora and sirocco. It offers protection and refuge to both those coming from the sea and from the mainland, to devotees of the island rocks and plants, sunbathed and seasoned with salt. It is located on a hill, where karst rocks and fertile Povljana fields meet. Owing to plentiful water wells extensive agriculture is possible (vegetable and viticulture). Vast area of fertile land is covered with vineyards. Traditionally, Povljana was an agricultural area that for centuries supplied food to majority of people on the island. In addition to agriculture, the population of Povljana earned their living from fishery and cattle breeding. Great changes occurred in the middle of the 20th century, when tourism started to develop in Povljana.

The small peninsula of Privlaka, surrounded by the royal town of Nin to the east, is situated on the edge where the Dalmatian karst turns into sandy landscape of northern Dalmatia.
Privlaka, with its seven kilometres of length and four kilometres of width, is a rather small, but very warm-hearted village. The first written record of Privlaka dates back to the 13th century. Numerous archeological sites dating back to the unimaginable 20 000 years B.C. reveal us its ancient history.
